Six Unions Back Davis for Another Term

Taylorville, IL – Rodney Davis’ campaign for Congress today announced that six local unions have all endorsed him for re-election. These unions include, the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), International Union of Operating of Engineers (IUOE), United Mine Workers of America (UMWA), American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters, and International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT).

“From day one, Rodney has stood with the working men and women of this District. He has continuously supported them on pro-labor issues, like Davis-Bacon and Project Labor Agreements (PLAs) and fought back against anti-union attacks from some in his own party. He has a proven record of standing with workers and that’s why you’re seeing so many of them put action above politics and endorse Rodney.” said Davis Spokesman Ashley Phelps.

Below are statements of support from these unions. Leaders list Davis’ strong support for Davis-Bacon and Project Labor Agreements (PLAs), his work on infrastructure policy, and his ability to work across the aisle among the reasons they back him for reelection.

“Congressman Davis represents the kind of public servant that Congress desperately needs. He cares about the policy implications of his actions, he has reached out to LIUNA and other unions to understand issues we care about and their effect on workers and his constituents. He engages with LIUNA, our leaders, staff and members regularly, not only when he is raising money because a fundraiser has passed him a note. He has repeatedly led the charge in the Republican Conference against the anti-worker agenda of the radical right wing. His support for family supporting prevailing wage laws (DavisBacon), community building Project Labor Agreements (PLAs), and job creating infrastructure and energy projects has been unwavering. Politics is ugly, but when somebody stands with you against the ugliness of extreme partisanship, they deserve support.” — Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA)

“Congressman Davis is a strong advocate for the hard-working people of his district and the members of the Operating Engineers. He believes people deserve a fair wage for a hard day’s work. That is why he has been an unwavering supporter of Davis-Bacon prevailing wages for construction workers, voted against eliminating workers’ rights at tribal gaming operations, and has led efforts to improve Buy American provisions for manufacturing workers. He is always accessible, willing to listen and was kind enough to address our recent international General Convention. He is a champion of working people, and we appreciate the work he does every day for members of the IUOE.”  International Union of Operating of Engineers (IUOE)

“We very much appreciate the support you have given both active and retired coal miners and their families, especially in such difficult times as the coal industry is experiencing today. Your strong voice in support of our members is an inspiration to us all. We will be actively working among our membership and our communities to inform working and retired Illinoisians of our support for you in this year’s election.” — Cecil Roberts, International President, and Levi Allen, International Secretary-Treasurer, for the National Council of Coal Miners Political Action Committee (COMPAC)

“Congressman Davis is a strong supporter of federal workers, and he is someone known for helping federal employees at the Defense Department and Bureau of Prisons. We hope that Rep. Davis will continue his good work on Capitol Hill for years to come and are happy to announce our support for him today.” — American Federation of Government Employees (AFGA) District 7 National Vice President Dorothy James

“Congressman Davis has been an advocate for the Carpenters and our skilled labor force. His support for the Davis-Bacon Act of paying prevailing wage rates underscores the congressman’s commitment to economic fairness, protection, productivity and prosperity in the workplace. This commitment helps workers and their families prosper rather than simply survive, and serves to fuel the engine of economic growth.” — Gary Perinar Executive Secretary–Treasurer Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters

“Congressman Davis represents the kind of public servant that Congress desperately needs. He cares about the policy implications of his actions; he cares about the great people of the 13th district. Congressman Davis actively reaches out to the IUPAT and other unions to understand issues we care about and their effect on workers and his constituents. Most importantly, he wins critical policy changes for our members.” –Ken Rigmaiden, General President of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) and Gregg Smith, Business Manager Secretary-Treasurer of IUPAT District Council 58
