Davis Campaign Releases New Ad: Pam

September 30th, 2020

Taylorville, IL — Today, Rodney Davis’ campaign for Congress released a new ad titled “Pam,” which highlights Betsy Londrigan’s support for a government-run insurance plan that could force the closure of over half of America’s rural hospital, including 39 in Illinois. The ad also highlights Rodney’s record of strengthening rural hospitals and protecting coverage for pre-existing conditions.

The ad features Pam Burge, who is a nurse in central Illinois. Pam discusses Betsy Londrigan’s support for a government-run insurance plan, which would have disastrous consequences for rural hospitals, according to two independent, non-partisan studies.

Research highlighted by the American Hospital Association (AHA) found that the Londrigan-backed plan could force the closure of more than half of rural hospitals across the country, including up to 39, or half, of the rural hospitals in Illinois.

Additional research conducted on behalf of the AHA shows the Londrigan-backed plan would cut funding for hospitals across the country by nearly $800 billion over a 10-year period. The AHA says the plan “would result in the largest ever cut to hospitals” and “could have a significant impact on patient access to care.”

As Capitol Fax’s Rich Miller noted, “This congressional district has a huge number of major regional hospitals, likely the most in Illinois and perhaps one of the most in the country. Those hospitals are significant local employers and they also drive technological development. Not to mention that hospitals have been especially hard-hit during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Rural hospitals in IL-13 include Carrollton, Jerseyville, Litchfield, Staunton, Carlinville, Hillsboro, Taylorville, Pana, Clinton and Monticello.

Rodney Davis has introduced bipartisan legislation to help out-of-work Americans keep their employer-provided health insurance through COBRA. Rodney also supported $175 billion in historic investments in hospitals and health care providers through the bipartisan CARES Act. Rodney also introduced bipartisan legislation to prevent health care providers who receive COVID-19 funding from furloughing nurses.

Rodney has co-sponsored several pieces of legislation – the Pre-existing Conditions Protection Act and the Continuing Coverage for Preexisting Conditions Act – to protect coverage for individuals with preexisting conditions.

Script:

Pam: As a nurse, I want the best care for my patients.

That’s why I won’t vote for Betsy Londrigan.

Londrigan supports a government-run health insurance plan that could force rural hospitals to close and take away your choice of doctors.

Betsy Londrigan’s liberal plans would jeopardize your family’s care.

Rodney Davis is fighting to strengthen rural hospitals and protect those with pre-existing conditions.

Rodney Davis is on our side.
